With seven miles of golden sands and sparkling sea, only a short walk from the school, this vibrant cosmopolitan town has it all. Bournemouth is famous for its entertainment venues, educational and sports facilities, and its restful atmosphere. Founded in 1800, the town has grown into a resort which is characterised by its wide, tree-lined avenues and pedestrian areas. Victorian architecture is complemented by beautiful gardens, modern stores, cafes, and eateries. Visitors are sure to enjoy loads of memorable experiences.

Other areas can also be selected for the programme. Please contact us for more information.

About our partner schools

We carefully select our partner secondary schools according to student feedback and performance. All our partner schools have achieved good or excellent Ofsted results and offer a friendly environment which fosters learning and promotes student integration. Great care is taken to regulate the number of students of any nationality within the same school to ensure maximum integration and encourage the use of English at all times. Schools are generally located in small communities and not in large cities.

Attending School in the UK

The use of uniform is compulsory in English Secondary Schools so students are responsible for their own kits and will not be able to attend school without them. Students have to adhere to the code of conduct of the school they will be attending and will be subject to disciplinary procedures in the same manner as an English student would. School information along with its procedures and students' expectations will be sent to international students upon school allocation.

Attending a state school is the perfect option for students who wish to immerse themselves in a typical English school environment and live first-hand the experience of a native student. These schools offer international students the chance to get involved with the community and enjoy a family atmosphere. Embracing the daily life of the local community and being part of their usual rhythm is an incredibly rewarding experience.

School Characteristics

Schools vary according to the number of students, from 400 to around 1,000 students.

  • State schools can be coeducational or single-sex (boys only / girls only).

  • The number of subjects of study decreases as students get older. As they advance in their academic stages (Prep, GCSE, A Levels) they can have more power of choice.

  • The subjects that schools usually offer are English, Mathematics, Science, Drama, Design and Technology, History and Geography, Music, Economics, Physical Education, and Modern Languages.

Accommodation

All students will stay in one of our premium host families where they will have the opportunity to learn about British culture and customs.

Homestay Accommodation

Staying with a family is probably the best way to practise your English and learn more about the British way of life. Bournemouth is a city of many cultures and this is reflected in the homestays we use. Families are carefully selected for their friendliness, cleanliness and access to and from the school. Host family homes are regularly inspected and most of our families are located within 20-45 minutes away from school by public transport. They are families with a generous spirit, an open mind, interested in cultural exchange and highly motivated to receive a young person of a different nationality with whom to share their language and culture. The family will provide all the necessary assistance. Services included:

  • Single/shared room for students of the same sex

  • Shared bathroom

  • Full board (breakfast, pack lunch and dinner)

  • Laundry, sheets and towels provided by the family

Host Family Recruitment

All our host families have passed a rigorous evaluation process following the following criteria:

  • An in-depth personal interview with all members of the family unit in order to learn about their hobbies, interests, hobbies, lifestyle, and most importantly, their motivation and reasons for hosting an international student.

  • Recurring inspections to verify homestay conditions such as cleanness, internet speed, food, and student rooms.

  • A thorough safe environment check by neighbourhood research, criminal record checks of all members of the host family, medical certificates, gas certificates, etc.

  • Registration with the local town hall so that the social services department for foreign students have regular visits that ensure the well-being of our students

Recognition

Studies carried out in our Academic Year / Term Programme are validated according to the current regulations of the Department for Education with global recognition. The student must complete all the subjects that are chosen at the beginning of the course under our supervision, and successfully pass them. Students attending years 11 and 12 must also pass their core and additional GCSE (General Certificate of Secondary Education). The validation will be managed by our Academic Year department in partnership with the school the student has been placed in.
