About Bournemouth

Bournemouth is located on the southern coast of England and enjoys a mild climate. With seven miles of golden sands and sparkling sea, only a short walk from the school, this vibrant cosmopolitan town has it all. Bournemouth is famous for its entertainment venues, educational and sports facilities, and its restful atmosphere. Founded in 1800, the town has grown into a resort which is characterised by its wide, tree-lined avenues and pedestrian areas. Victorian architecture is complemented by beautiful gardens, modern stores, cafes, and eateries. Visitors are sure to enjoy loads of memorable experiences.

About the school

Our English lessons take place in United World School of English and Bournemouth & Poole College, just a 10-minute walk away from the town Centre and the sandy beach. Our language courses are attended by students from all over the world and have been designed specifically for young people who are visiting a foreign country for a short period. Maximum class size is 16. All teachers are qualified in teaching English as a foreign language by University of Cambridge and the school is accredited by the British Council. Teaching materials are provided and have been carefully designed and compiled for originality, content and relevance to young learners.

Location and Facilities

  • Open City Campus

  • Central Location

  • 10 minutes' walk from the beach or town centre with its high street full of shops, restaurants, cafes, banks and mini markets

  • Bus stop (local services) just outside the building

  • Modern and spacious classrooms with WiFi access

  • Sports facilities close by - gyms, football pitches, tennis courts, etc.

The Course

Our English language courses have a workload of 15 hours per week over 20 lessons of 45 minutes each. All our courses include language skills development, project work and a hands on approach which aims at preparing students for educational trips and outings. We also encourage our learners to put the new language they learned into practice by engaging in creative tasks and facing real life situations with confidence.

Lessons

During our English language courses students will attend 4 45-minute lessons everyday (20 lessons per week). The duration of each lesson allows students to keep focused and motivated as they switch from new language input to practice and production. Lessons are planned so that students have the opportunity to interact with students from other countries and help each other improve their English. All our teachers hold a certificate or diploma from University of Cambridge, which guarantees the quality of our academic programme. The use of music, arts and technology play a great role in our summer curriculum as our academic team believes that student engagement is only possible through lessons that are relevant to their lives and interests. As an accredited centre by the British Council and member of English UK, all our courses have a maximum of 16 students per class from different cultural backgrounds.

Students will do a level test and have a quick chat with our academic team before they are placed in a group of students of the same age and level.
